    Physical Installation
NULITES can be installed by anyone in just minutes. Nulites have a special bezel that focuses the light toward the instrument without interfering with other normal night-flying operations. The amount of light has been designed to match the level of any present instruments already internally lit. Our system, by design, concentrates 60% of the light in the top half of the instrument. This ensures that there are no problems with parallax, hot or cold spots, or glare. It is important that the lights be installed with the bezel side to the instrument, and the wires coming out of the top of the unit.

NOTE: NEVER USE AN ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER ON A NULITE. The “snap” torque could possibly snap the unit and void the warranty .

INSTALLATION UNDER PANELThe most common installation is to sandwich the unit between the instrument and the panel. This method is preferred when there is no panel overlay. Remove the instrument and place the NULITE between the instrument and the panel with the wires coming out of the top (as seen in Figure 1). Reinstall mounting screws and attatch wires to dimming circuit. (Also see Electrical Installation.)

INSTALLATION OVER PANEL If the aircraft instrument panel is equipped with an overlay, the NULITE can be installed over the instrument panel and then covered by the overlay. This procedure does not recess the Instrument. Remove the cover and install the NULITE with the wires coming out of the top of the unit (see Figure 2). Reinstall the screws and the overlay after connecting the wires to the dimming circuit. (Also see Electrical Installation.)

INSTALLATION TIPS It is always best to plan out any installation. First you must answer several key questions:
    • Do I have the right NULITE model for this specific instrument?
    • What voltage is the aircraft’s electrical system?
    • Do I know how to tie into the existing electrical system?
    • Will the installation be under or over the instrument panel?
    • Do I need to add another dimming potentiometer?

Note: NULITEs are not painted. The chemical coating is much like that used on computer keyboards. It is not easily effected by most solvents. Placing a small drop of Super Glue or RTV on the top outside corners will secure the light assembly to the instrument panel. This will prevent the light from moving during routine removal and re-installation of the instrument.
